Today is Canada Day and most people celebrate the nation as being 153 years old though few know that the First Nations People inhabited the land for more than 12,000 years before the Europe Settlers arrived. In fact as far back as 1910, the indigenous the chiefs of Secwepemc, Syilx & Nlaka'pamux people relayed grievances of the treatment by the federal government to Canada's then prime minister, Sir Wilfrid Laurier. A 110 years later, most Canadians do not comprehend nor recognize what indigenous communities are still facing with the judicial, health & education systems, in fact systemic racism in the country is alive as an everyday reality for people of vulnerable communities.
